I want to color my hair at home, but I'm afraid I'll be allergic to the chemicals. Is there a way to find out?
To find out if you are allergic to either the color or peroxide, do a patch test. First apply a little color on the inside of your arm and put a band-aid over it. Leave it on for 24 hours. If no reaction, then you can use the product.
Then do the same test with just the peroxide. If you get a reaction to that, then I would recommend using a semi-permanent hair-coloring product that has no peroxide or ammonia, and washes out in 6-12 shampoos. Stick with a medium shade or the color will be too dark. I also recommend that you do a strand test to make sure that the color is exactly or close to what you are looking for.
