How does one apply false lashes?

False lashes are a fun way to enhance your eyes and play with your look. And once you get the technique down, they're relatively easy to apply. There are two types of false lashes, individual and strip. I'll go through the techniques for applying both. To start, you'll need:

  • False lashes
  • Small scissors
  • Duo surgical glue
  • A toothpick
  • A magnifying mirror
  • Tweezers
  • An orange stick (that's the long wooden stick manicurists use to push back the cuticles); you could even use the bottom end of an eye shadow or eyeliner brush instead, as long as the end of it is small, smooth and clean

If you're going for a natural look, chose a color that resembles your natural lashes, unless you're pale blond in which case go for a light brown.

Before you begin, make sure the eye area is free of any moisture.

How to Apply Strip Lashes:

  • Place the lash strip against your lash line to measure size. If they're too long, you may need to trim them a bit by cutting a small section off.
  • Place a drop of eyelash glue on a clean surface.
  • Dip the toothpick into the glue, dotting a tiny bit along the lash strip. Let it set a few seconds. Don't worry if the glue looks whitish; it'll disappear once it dries.
  • Place the strip of lashes down against the root of your natural lash line using the orange stick to press as you go. Be careful to use a steady hand. It will feel stiff for a few minutes, but if done correctly, you'll forget you even have them on.
