Easy Hairstyles

It's blazing hot. The air's thick with humidity and your hair's in total rebellion. What can you do when summer's mighty wrath wreaks havoc with your hair? We consulted with Tippi Shorter, celebrity stylist for Pantene, who gave us the hippest tips of the season. Whether your hair is short or long, wavy, curly or straight, here's how to treat it in superstar fashion even on hot, humid days.

For supershort hair, all you need is the right product. With short hair, whether it's wavy or stick-straight, a body-building gel is all you need to maintain your style and keep your hair from going limp and flat. Take a dime-sized amount of gel, rub between your palms and apply to damp hair starting close to scalp and working your way to the ends. "Short hair loves gel," says Tippi, "because it's not looking for movement as much as control."

For medium-length hair, try twirling. If you work with humidity you can really give your hair some movement and bounce. This summer, loose waves look great, and you can get them by literally twirling sections of damp hair into place with your fingers. Just shampoo and rinse. Part your damp hair in one-inch square sections, apply a defining product to the area and twirl hair in the same direction it naturally wants to go around your finger. Let it set for 10 minutes. When the hair dries you can "comb" your waves lightly with your fingers.
