Julia Youssef, Assistant Vice President, L'Oréal Technical Center answers your frequently asked questions about hair color:

Covering All-Over Gray

My hair is more than half gray. I tried a semi-permanent color but my gray hair doesn't seem to hold it. What can I do to get the gray out?

You can get away with using non-permanent color when you are 25 percent gray. But when your hair is more than half gray, you need to use a hair color product formulated to cover gray hair. Gray hair -- actually, there's no such thing as gray hair, just white hair, which seen through your other hair, looks gray -- has a different texture and requires formulas meant to penetrate it. You may want to try L'Oréal Excellence Creme.

Covering Partially Gray Hair

I'm only 10 to 20 percent gray, and it makes my hair dull. Is there any way to cover the gray and not cover my whole head with color?
