Louis Licari is a name synonymous with perfect color. Often referred to as "the King of Color," Louis says the secret to his long-standing reign is his ability to create modern color that works for the individual woman. Shying away from the trendy color of the moment, he is more concerned about how color works for each person. Originally trained as a painter at Syracuse University, he says he sees hair color as art. Louis truly believes that "the right hair color can lift a complexion and take years off a woman's face."
He started his career at the bottom (shampooing at an upscale salon) and worked his way up to high above Fifth Avenue, the location of his New York salon, of which he's been owner and creative director since 1987. The second Louis Licari salon, which opened in 1992, is located in Beverly Hills. He divides his time between the salons by alternating weeks throughout the year.
It's no secret that anyone sitting in Louis's chair automatically feels special. Whether his customer is an actress, a runway model or a businesswoman, Louis is known for providing all clients with his undivided attention while he listens and accesses their coloring needs. These personal standards help to explain his sought-after status on both coasts. And, although Louis's list of celebrities is far from short, he has the impressive ability to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground while working 10 hours a day.
A few years ago, Louis joined NBC's Today show team as a contributing editor. He appears regularly on the morning show, giving advice and demonstrating the latest in beauty and grooming.
